ABSTRACT

In recent years, wearable electronic skin has garnered significant attention due to its broad range of applications in various fields, including personal health monitoring, human motion perception, human-computer interaction, and flexible display. The flexible multimodal sensor, as the core component of electronic skin, can mimic the multistimulus sensing ability of human skin, which is highly significant for the development of the next generation of electronic devices. This paper provides a summary of the latest advancements in multimodal sensors that possess two or more response capabilities (such as force, temperature, humidity, etc.) simultaneously. It explores the relationship between materials and multiple sensing capabilities, focusing on both active materials that are the same and different. The paper also discusses the preparation methods, device structures, and sensing properties of these sensors. Furthermore, it introduces the applications of multimodal sensors in human motion and health monitoring, as well as intelligent robots. Finally, the current limitations and future challenges of multimodal sensors will be presented.

ABSTRACT

Defects in conformal field theory (CFT) are of significant theoretical and experimental importance. The presence of defects theoretically enriches the structure of the CFT, but at the same time, it makes it more challenging to study, especially in dimensions higher than two. Here, we demonstrate that the recently-developed theoretical scheme, fuzzy (non-commutative) sphere regularization, provides a powerful lens through which one can dissect the defect of 3D CFTs in a transparent way. As a notable example, we study the magnetic line defect of 3D Ising CFT and clearly demonstrate that it flows to a conformal defect fixed point. We have identified 6 low-lying defect primary operators, including the displacement operator, and accurately extract their scaling dimensions through the state-operator correspondence. Moreover, we also compute one-point bulk correlators and two-point bulk-defect correlators, which show great agreement with predictions of defect conformal symmetry, and from which we extract various bulk-defect operator product expansion coefficients. Our work demonstrates that the fuzzy sphere offers a powerful tool for exploring the rich physics in 3D defect CFTs.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To extend and form the "Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation in Traditional Chinese Medicine" (GRADE-TCM). METHODS: Methodologies were systematically reviewed and analyzed concerning evidence-based TCM guidelines worldwide. A survey questionnaire was developed based on the literature review and open-end expert interviews. Then, we performed expert consensus, discussion meeting, opinion collection, external examination, and the GRADE-TCM was formed eventually. RESULTS: 265 Chinese and English TCM guidelines were included and analyzed. Five experts completed the open-end interviews. Ten methodological entries were summarized, screened and selected. One round of consensus was conducted, including a total of 22 experts and 220 valid questionnaire entries, concerning 1) selection of the GRADE, 2) GRADE-TCM upgrading criteria, 3) GRADE-TCM evaluation standard, 4) principles of consensus and recommendation, and 5) presentation of the GRADE-TCM and recommendation. Finally, consensus was reached on the above 10 entries, and the results were of high importance (with voting percentages ranging from 50 % to 81.82 % for "very important" rating) and strong reliability (with the Cr ranging from 0.93 to 0.99). Expert discussion meeting (with 40 experts), opinion collection (in two online platforms) and external examination (with 14 third-party experts) were conducted, and the GRADE-TCM was established eventually. CONCLUSION: GRADE-TCM provides a new extended evidence-based evaluation standard for TCM guidelines. In GRADE-TCM, international evidence-based norms, characteristics of TCM intervention, and inheritance of TCM culture were combined organically and followed. This is helpful for localization of the GRADE in TCM and internationalization of TCM guidelines.

BACKGROUND: Podocyte apoptosis plays a vital role in proteinuria pathogenesis in diabetic nephropathy (DN). The regulatory relationship between long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and podocyte apoptosis has recently become another research hot spot in the DN field. AIM: To investigate whether lncRNA protein-disulfide isomerase-associated 3 (Pdia3) could regulate podocyte apoptosis through miR-139-3p and revealed the underlying mechanism. METHODS: Using normal glucose or high glucose (HG)-cultured podocytes, the cellular functions and exact mechanisms underlying the regulatory effects of lncRNA Pdia3 on podocyte apoptosis and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) were explored. LncRNA Pdia3 and miR-139-3p expression were measured through quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Relative cell viability was detected through the cell counting kit-8 colorimetric assay. The podocyte apoptosis rate in each group was measured through flow cytometry. The interaction between lncRNA Pdia3 and miR-139-3p was examined through the dual luciferase reporter assay. Finally, western blotting was performed to detect the effect of lncRNA Pdia3 on podocyte apoptosis and ERS via miR-139-3p. RESULTS: The expression of lncRNA Pdia3 was significantly downregulated in HG-cultured podocytes. Next, lncRNA Pdia3 was involved in HG-induced podocyte apoptosis. Furthermore, the dual luciferase reporter assay confirmed the direct interaction between lncRNA Pdia3 and miR-139-3p. LncRNA Pdia3 overexpression attenuated podocyte apoptosis and ERS through miR-139-3p in HG-cultured podocytes. CONCLUSION: Taken together, this study demonstrated that lncRNA Pdia3 overexpression could attenuate HG-induced podocyte apoptosis and ERS by acting as a competing endogenous RNA of miR-139-3p, which might provide a potential therapeutic target for DN.

BACKGROUND: Radiofrequency ablation has been applied for the treatment of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). The two known procedures are percutaneous intramyocardial septal radiofrequency ablation (PIMSRA) and endocardial radiofrequency septal ablation (ERSA). METHODS: This study presents a retrospective analysis of the PIMSRA and ERSA procedures in patients with drug-refractory HOCM. A total of 28 patients participated in the study, with 12 receiving PIMSRA and 16 receiving ERSA. The objective of our study was to compare the short-term effects of these two radiofrequency ablation procedures. RESULTS: At the 30-day follow-up, the PIMSRA group demonstrated a greater reduction in left ventricular outflow tract peak gradient at rest compared to the ERSA group (22.25 [16.72] mmHg versus 47.75 [21.94] mmHg) (p < .01). The values for the PIMSRA group decreased from 99.33 (32.00) mmHg to 22.25 (16.72) mmHg (p < .01), while the ERSA group decreased from 97.75 (30.24) mmHg to 47.75 (21.94) mmHg (p < .01). Only the PIMSRA group exhibited a decrease in mitral regurgitation (MR). The area of MR decreased from 10.13 (4.12) mm2 to 3.65 (2.80) mm2 in the PIMSRA group (p < .01). Additionally, the PIMSRA group experienced reductions in left atrial diameter (LAD) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF)%. The values for LAD changed from 43.58 (7.53) mm to 37.08 (6.92) mm (p = .03), and the values for LVEF% decreased from 65.75 (6.12) pg/mL to 60.83 (4.06) pg/mL (p = .03). CONCLUSION: In terms of the two types of radiofrequency ablation methods used in HOCM, it has been observed that PIMSRA demonstrates a more favorable early treatment effect compared to ERSA.

ABSTRACT

A very mild and efficient procedure has been developed for the preparation of N-methylated uridine, pseudouridine, guanosine and inosine derivatives. This process was compatible with free hydroxyls within the ribose and did not require precautions on the protection or deprotection of other functionalities. The key to this extremely mild methylation without protection relied on the in situ generated methyl oxonium from the Wittig reagent and methanol. A putative mechanism for the selective methylation was also proposed.

ABSTRACT

RNA interference (RNAi) is a widespread post-transcriptional silencing mechanism that targets homologous mRNA sequences for specific degradation. An RNAi-based pest management strategy is target-specific and considered a sustainable biopesticide. However, the specific genes targeted and the efficiency of the delivery methods can vary widely across species. In this study, a spray-induced and nanocarrier-delivered gene silencing (SI-NDGS) system that incorporated gene-specific dsRNAs targeting conserved genes was used to evaluate phenotypic effects in white-backed planthopper (WBPH). At 2 days postspraying, transcript levels for all target genes were significantly reduced and knockdown of two gene orthologs, hsc70-3 and PP-α, resulted in an elevated mortality (>60%) and impaired ecdysis. These results highlight the utility of the SI-NDGS system for identifying genes involved in WBPH growth and development that could be potentially exploitable as high mortality target genes to develop an alternative method for WBPH control.

ABSTRACT

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the commonest neurodegenerative disorder. It reduces motor and cognitive function in patients. Vinpocetine (Vinp) has the effects of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, and could improve cognitive function in patients. This study was aimed to investigating the therapeutic effects of Vinp on dyskinesia in a 6-Hydroxydopamine hydrobromide (6-OHDA)-induced PD rat model. We constructed a PD rat model by injecting 6-OHDA, and intervened with Vinp for 7 days. The motor function of the rats was evaluated by an open-field test and rotation test. Besides, H&E staining was applied to observe the changes of dopaminergic neurons in the striatum. The levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the rat striatum were detected. We assessed the impact of Vinp on α-synuclein (α-Syn) and Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway-related molecules by western blot and qRT-PCR. Rats in the PD group showed reduced horizontal movement frequency and number of squares crossed, increased contact time and rotation frequency, and reduced number of dopaminergic neurons accompanied by severe morphological damage. Vinp treatment increased the horizontal movement frequency and number of squares crossed, reduced the contact time, and rotation frequency in PD rats. Also, Vinp downregulated α-Syn protein expression and MDA level, while upregulated SOD activity in the striatum of PD rats. Furthermore, Vinp treatment activated the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway in the striatum of PD rats. In conclusion, Vinp improved the dyskinesia in 6-OHDA-induced PD rats by alleviating oxidative stress, and these effects may be associated with activating the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

Aiming at the problem of the low cooperative positioning accuracy and robustness of multi-UAV formation, a cooperative positioning method of a multi-UAV based on an adaptive fault-tolerant federated filter is proposed. Combined with the position of the follower UAV and leader UAV, and the relative range between them, a cooperative positioning model of the follower UAV is established. On this basis, an adaptive fault-tolerant federated filter is designed. Fault detection and isolation technology are added to improve the positioning accuracy of the follower UAV and the fault tolerance performance of the filter. Meanwhile, the measurement noise matrix is adjusted by the adaptive information allocation coefficient to reduce the impact of undetected fault information on the sub-filter and global estimation accuracy. The simulation results show that the adaptive fault-tolerant federated algorithm can greatly improve the positioning accuracy, which is 83.4% higher than that of the absolute positioning accuracy of a single UAV. In the case of a gradual fault, the method has a stronger fault-tolerant performance and reconstruction performance.

BACKGROUND: Nanozymes are one of the ideal substitutes for natural enzymes because of their excellent chemical stability and simple preparation methods. However, due to the limited catalytic ability of most reported nanozymes, constructing nanomaterials with low cost and high activity is gradually becoming an exploration focus in the field of nanozymes. Heteroatom doping of metal-organic frameworks is one of potential approaches to design nanozymes with high catalytic performance. Due to their multiple valence states properties, V-doped metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived LDH is expected to be a good enzyme-like catalyst. To our knowledge, the V-doped MOF-derived LDH as nanozyme is not explored before. RESULTS: We report the in-situ synthesis of NiV-layered double hydroxides (LDHs) on nickel-based MOF, i.e. Ni-MOF@NiV-LDHs. The MOF surface is covered by 2D nanosheets. This unique structural design increases the specific surface area of the material, enables more exposure of catalytic active sites to participate in reactions and accelerates the electron transfer rate. The Ni-MOF@NiV-LDHs have high peroxidase-like activity able to catalyze TMB oxidation by H2O2 via the generation of •OH and O2•-. Relative to Ni-MOF, the Ni-MOF@NiV-LDHs shows 47-fold peroxidase-like activity rise. It had good affinity to TMB and H2O2, with the Michaelis-Menten constants of 0.12 mM and 0.007 mM, respectively. The hydroquinone (HQ) consumed the reactive oxygen species generated in the TMB + H2O2+Ni-MOF@NiV-LDHs system to inhibit the TMB oxidation. On this basis, a sensitive and rapid assay for determining HQ was developed, with a linear range of 0.50-70 µM and a LOD of 0.37 µM. SIGNIFICANCE: This work provided some clues for the further development of novel nanozymes with high catalytic performance via a strategy of heteroatom doping. And the constructed colorimetric analysis method was successfully utilized for the determination of HQ in actual waters, which has the potential for practical application in the analysis of environmental pollutants.

ABSTRACT

Despite immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have shown the greatest success in melanoma treatment, only a subset of melanoma patients responds well to ICIs. Thus, identifying predictive biomarkers for immunotherapy response is crucial. In this study, we took complementary advantages of immunotherapy data and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) multi-omics data to explore the predictive biomarkers for the response to immunotherapy in melanoma. We first predicted responsive and non-responsive melanomas in the TCGA skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM) cohort based on both somatic mutation and transcriptome datasets which involved immunotherapy data for melanoma. This method identified 170 responsive and 56 non-responsive melanomas in TCGA-SKCM. Based on the TCGA-SKCM data, we performed a comprehensive comparison of multi-omics molecular features between responsive and non-responsive melanomas. We identified the molecular features significantly associated with immunotherapy response in melanoma at the genome, transcriptome, epigenome, and proteome levels, respectively. Our analysis confirmed certain immunotherapy response-associated biomarkers, such as tumor mutation burden (TMB), copy number alteration (CNA), intratumor heterogeneity (ITH), PD-L1 expression, and tumor immunity. Moreover, we identified some novel molecular features associated with immunotherapy response: (1) the activation of mast cells and dendritic cells correlating negatively with immunotherapy response; (2) the enrichment of many oncogenic pathways correlating positively with immunotherapy response, such as JAK-STAT, RAS, MAPK, HIF-1, PI3K-Akt, and VEGF pathways; and (3) a number of microRNAs and proteins whose expression correlates with immunotherapy response. In addition, the mTOR signaling pathway has a negative association with immunotherapy response. The novel biomarkers have potential predictive values in immunotherapy response and warrant further investigation.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To compare the clinical effects and complications of surgery + chemotherapy and radiotherapy + chemotherapy in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma recurrence, so as to compare the safety and efficacy of two different therapeutic methods. Methods:A retrospective analysis was performed on 40 patients with recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma after radiotherapy and chemotherapy admitted to our hospital from January 2016 to June 2020. Among them, 26 patients were treated with surgery. The recurrent tumor was removed under nasal endoscope, and the frozen resection margin was negative during the operation. Chemotherapy was continued for stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ patients from 3 to 5 weeks after surgery. Fourteen patients received secondary radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Postoperative complications and survival rate were observed. Results:There were 14 patients in the secondary chemoradiotherapy group(control group) and 26 patients in the nasal endoscopic surgery group(observation group). Among the 26 patients, 19 patients underwent nasal septal mucosal repair, 5 patients underwent temporal muscle flap repair, 2 patients underwent submental flap repair, 2 patients had nasal septal mucosal flap necrosis and cerebrospinal fluid leakage, and the temporal muscle flap was used for secondary repair in the second stage operation, and 8 patients needed cervical lymph node dissection. The patients recovered well after surgery, and the patients in stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ were treated with chemotherapy after 3 weeks to 5 weeks according to the patient's wound condition. There were significant differences in the incidence of complications and 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates between the two groups(P<0.05). Conclusion:Patients with recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma can be treated by nasal endoscopic surgery to remove the tumor, and the use of pedicled nasal septal mucosal flap or temporal muscle flap for skull base reconstruction, The operation can effectively prevent major complications such as internal carotid artery rupture and hemorrhage, and improve the survival rate and quality of life of patients. It provides a safe and effective treatment for patients with recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

ABSTRACT

Conformal field theory (CFT) plays a crucial role in the study of various critical phenomena. While much attention has been paid to the critical exponents of different universalities, which correspond to the conformal dimensions of CFT primary fields, other important and intricate data such as operator product expansion (OPE) coefficients governing the fusion of two primary fields, have remained largely unexplored, especially in dimensions higher than 2D (or equivalently, 1+1D). Motivated by the recently proposed fuzzy sphere regularization, we investigate the operator content of 3D Ising criticality from a microscopic perspective. We first outline the procedure for extracting OPE coefficients on the fuzzy sphere and then compute 13 OPE coefficients of low-lying CFT primary fields. Our results are highly accurate and in agreement with the numerical conformal bootstrap data of 3D Ising CFT. Moreover, we were able to obtain 4 OPE coefficients, including f_{T_{µν}T_{ρη}ε}, which were previously unknown, thus demonstrating the superior capabilities of our scheme. Expanding the horizon of the fuzzy sphere regularization from the state perspective to the operator perspective opens up new avenues for exploring a wealth of new physics.

BACKGROUND: Left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) is a safe and effective method for preventing embolic events in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation. However, peri-device leaks (PDLs) are sometimes unavoidable. Controversy exists regarding whether PDLs lead to embolic events. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore the association between PDLs and embolic events, including ischaemic stroke, transient ischaemic attacks (TIAs), and systemic embolism (SE). METHODS: We conducted a systematic search of the PubMed, Web of Science, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library databases for studies published up to September 25, 2022, to compare the rate of ischaemic stroke/TIA/SE between the PDL group and the non-PDL group after LAAC. RESULTS: Thirteen studies comprising 54,405 patients were included in the meta-analysis. The PDL group detected by transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE) had a significantly higher rate of ischaemic stroke/TIA/SE than the non-PDL group (OR: 1.20, 95% CI: 1.08-1.33, p = 0.0009). However, no difference in ischaemic stroke/TIA/SE was found between the PDL and non-PDL subgroups of the cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) group (OR: 1.12, 95% CI: 0.51-2.50, p = 0.77). CCTA and TEE showed different rates of PDL detection, with the CCTA group having a higher rate of PDL detection (p < 0.0001), especially for trivial leaks. CONCLUSIONS: PDL detected by TEE increases the risk of embolic events after LAAC. However, no association was found between PDL and ischaemic stroke/TIA/SE in the CCTA group, which showed a higher rate of PDL detection than TEE, particularly for trivial leaks. In the future, CCTA may be used to explore the relationship between PDL size and ischaemic stroke/TIA/SE.

ABSTRACT

Patients with long-lasting hypertension often suffer from atrial or ventricular arrhythmias. Evidence suggests that mechanical stimulation can change the refractory period and dispersion of the ventricular myocyte action potential through stretch-activated ion channels (SACs) and influence cellular calcium transients, thus increasing susceptibility to ventricular arrhythmias. However, the specific pathogenesis of hypertension-induced arrhythmias is unknown. In this study, through clinical data, we found that a short-term increase in blood pressure leads to a rise in tachyarrhythmias in patients with clinical hypertension. We investigated the mechanism of this phenomenon using a combined imaging system(AC) of atomic force microscopy (AFM) and laser scanning confocal microscopy. After mechanical distraction to stimulate ventricular myocytes isolated from Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR), we synchronously monitored cardiomyocyte stiffness and intracellular calcium changes. This method can reasonably simulate cardiomyocytes' mechanics and ion changes when blood pressure rises rapidly. Our results indicated that the stiffness value of cardiomyocytes in SHR was significantly more extensive than that of normal controls, and cardiomyocytes were more sensitive to mechanical stress; In addition, intracellular calcium increased rapidly and briefly in rats with spontaneous hypertension. After intervention with streptomycin, a SAC blocker, ventricular myocytes are significantly less sensitive to mechanical stimuli. Thus, SAC is involved in developing and maintaining ventricular arrhythmias induced by hypertension. The increased stiffness of ventricular myocytes caused by hypertension leads to hypersensitivity of cellular calcium flow to mechanical stimuli is one of the mechanisms that cause arrhythmias. The AC system is a new research method to study the mechanical properties of cardiomyocytes. This study provides new techniques and ideas for developing new anti-arrhythmic drugs. HIGHLIGHT: The mechanism of hypertension-induced tachyarrhythmia is not precise. Through this study, it is found that the biophysical properties of myocardial abnormalities, the myocardium is excessively sensitive to mechanical stimulation, and the calcium flow appears to transient explosive changes, leading to tachyarrhythmia.

ABSTRACT

As a natural carrier protein, zein was intensively studied for the construction of a flavonoid delivery system. Chrysin has presented superior tumor-resistant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidation potentials among the flavonoid candidates in clinical practice. However, due to inadequate research, the binding mechanism and structural affinity of zein to chrysin are still indeterminate. Therefore, multispectral methods were employed to explore the molecular interaction of zein and chrysin in this work. These techniques showed that chrysin reduced the intrinsic fluorescence of zein via a static process and that the interaction between zein and chrysin was mainly driven spontaneously by hydrophobic forces. Additionally, the experimental results revealed the changed microenvironment in the vicinity of tyrosine and affected secondary structure in the presence of chrysin, indicating zein's conformation were altered by chrysin. This work provided comprehensive insight into the combination of plant-derived protein (zein) and flavonoids (chrysin) and helped rationalize the protection, transportation, and release of chrysin through a zein-based delivery system.

INTRODUCTION: Mini-implant insertion in the maxillary posterior region can be influenced by anatomic limitations, thus increasing the failure rate. We explored the feasibility of a new implantation site: the region between the mesial and distal buccal roots of the maxillary first molar. METHODS: Cone-beam computed tomography data from 177 patients were collected from a database. The maxillary first molars were morphologically classified by analyzing the angle and morphology of the mesial and distal buccal roots. Next, 77 subjects were randomly selected from the 177 patients to measure and analyze the hard-tissue morphology in the maxillary posterior region. RESULTS: We devised the Morphological Classification on the Mesial and Distal Buccal Roots of Maxillary First Molar (MCBRMM), divided into 3 types: MCBRMM-I, II, and III. In all subjects, MCBRMM-I, II, and III accounted for 43%, 25%, and 32%, respectively. At 8 mm from the mesial cementoenamel junction of maxillary first molars, the interradicular distance between the maxillary first molar's mesiodistal buccal roots of MCBRMM-I was 2.6 mm, showing an upward trend from the cementoenamel junction to the apex. The distance from the buccal bone cortex to the palatal root was >9 mm. The buccal cortical thickness was >1 mm. CONCLUSIONS: This study provided a potential site for mini-implant insertion in the maxillary posterior region: the alveolar bone of maxillary first molars in MCBRMM-I.

INTRODUCTION: Mini-implants are now widely used in orthodontic treatment. Soft-tissue inflammation around the mini-implant is an important factor affecting its stability. This study aimed to investigate the periodontal status and the bacterial composition around mini-implants. METHODS: A total of 79 mini-implants in 40 patients (aged 18-45 years) were evaluated in this study. The mini-implant probing depth (mPD), mini-implant gingival sulcus bleeding index (mBI), mini-implant plaque index (mPLI), and the composition of the supragingival and subgingival plaque around the mini-implants were recorded. After Congo red staining, the bacteria were classified and counted under a light microscope. RESULTS: The mPLI and mBI around mini-implants in the infrazygomatic crest were higher than those in the buccal shelf and interradicular area. The mPD was higher on the coronal site of the mini-implant than on the mesial, distal, and apical sites in the infrazygomatic crest. The mPLI around the mini-implant was positively correlated with the mBI, and the mBI was positively correlated with the mPD. The supragingival and subgingival bacterial composition around the mini-implants was similar to that of natural teeth. Compared with supragingival bacterial composition, the subgingival bacteria of mini-implants had a significantly lower proportion of cocci and a higher proportion of bacilli and spirochetes. CONCLUSIONS: The bacteria composition of the plaque and the location are important factors in the inflammation around mini-implants. Similar to natural teeth, mini-implants require health maintenance to prevent inflammation of the surrounding soft tissue and maintain stability.

ABSTRACT

Flexible sweat sensors have found widespread potential applications for long-term wear and tracking and real-time monitoring of human health. However, the main substrate currently used in common flexible sweat sensors is thin film, which has disadvantages such as poor air permeability and the need for additional wearables. In this Review, the recent progress of sweat sensors has been systematically summarized by the types of monitoring methods of sweat sensors. In addition, this Review introduces and compares the performance of sweat sensors based on thin film and textile substrates such as fiber/yarn. Finally, opportunities and suggestions for the development of flexible sweat sensors are presented by summarizing the integration methods of sensors and human body monitoring sites.

ABSTRACT

Scroll waves have been found in a variety of three-dimensional excitable media, including physical, chemical, and biological origins. Scroll waves in cardiac tissue are of particular significance as they underlie ventricular fibrillation that can cause sudden death. The behavior of a scroll wave is characterized by a line of phase singularity at its organizing center, known as a filament. A thorough investigation into the filament dynamics is the key to further exploration of the general theory of scroll waves in excitable media and the mechanisms of ventricular fibrillation. In this paper, we propose a method to identify filaments of scroll waves in excitable media. From the definition of the topological charge of filaments, we obtain the discrete expression of the topological charge-density vector, which is useful in calculating the topological charge vectors at each grid in the space directly. The set of starting points of these topological charge vectors represents a set of phase singularities, thereby forming a line of phase singularity, that is, a filament of a scroll wave.
